DESCRIPTION:New York City entered a period of extraordinary growth and prosperity with the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. As commerce flourished and lower Manhattan became increasingly crowded\, many of the city’s wealthiest merchant families moved north to the fashionable neighborhood now known as NoHo. Led by a guide from the Merchant’s House Museum\, once home to the Tredwell family\, we will explore the elegant streets of this former enclave of New York’s mercantile elite. Discover how prosperous families lived\, worked\, and entertained\, and gain insight into a transformative period in the city’s history through the surviving architecture and stories.
