Timeless Design Honors The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire

the dowager duchess of devonshireIn 2007, Royal Oak honored The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire with its Timeless Design Award for her dedicated and innovative stewardship of Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Chatsworth is one of Britain's most visited and admired "treasure houses" located in Derbyshire.

Lady Sophia TopleyLady Sophia Topley accepted the award on behalf of her mother, the Dowager Duchess. Lady Sophia Topley reflected on the rich and active life of her mother in an illustrated talk drawing upon unpublished photographs and personal remembrances.

Proceeds from the evening were used to sustain Royal Oak's scholarship programs, its ongoing work with the National Trust, and the conservation of the 'Story of Gideon' tapestries at Hardwick Hall.

Principal sponsors for the evening included: Baker, House & Garden Magazine, Lee Jofa, and Sotheby's.

A lively auction featuring a luxurious six-night heritage trip to England was conducted with great flair by Sotheby's top auctioneer Hugh Hildesley. The package included first-class travel and accommodation, handcrafted leather goods, books and publications, and private tours at Chatsworth and Waddesdon Manor. Auction winners also enjoyed a tour of At Hardwick Hall and gardens, including the conservation work that their winning bid will support.

Royal Oak thanks the following for their generous contributions toward this outstanding package: Bentley, Country Life/The Field, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Eos Airlines, Historic House Hotels, House & Garden, the National Trust, Smythson of Bond Street, and Tanner Krolle.
