London Windmills and Watermills

Online Walking Tour

Join Royal Oak as Rob Smith takes us on a fascinating digital tour that explores the history of windmills and watermills in London. We will discover the remarkable ingenuity and engineering that was required to keep London supplied with the flour needed for bread before the advent of steam power and electricity.

From restored mills to street names that serve as reminders of bygone days, we’ll take a closer look at these fascinating structures and uncover the stories behind them. Although many of these mills have been lost to time, there are more still standing than you might realize.

Using a range of resources including photographs, old maps, and newspaper articles, Rob will guide us through the streets of London to discover these hidden gems and learn about the vital role they played in the city’s history.
