Royal Oak Lectures

For over 47 years, The Royal Oak Foundation has invited some of Britain’s most respected scholars of British history, art, architecture, and design to share their work with audiences throughout the U.S. Today, lectures remain a significant benefit of Royal Oak membership and encourage development and support for the Foundation’s important work with The National Trust of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Our lecturers highlight just-published research and illustrate many of the 350 historic houses and gardens under the National Trust’s stewardship and supported by Royal Oak.

Success & New Innovations

Between spring 2017 and fall 2019, Royal Oak presented 47 different speakers who gave 162 public lectures in 15 cities—reaching approximately 5,000 in-person attendees per year. In 2020, in response to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, Royal Oak transitioned to a digital platform of online educational lectures. New digital lectures allow Royal Oak to engage current audiences and also reach a larger audience in previously inaccessible areas. Our online lectures have attracted new viewers from all 50 states, as well as from Canada, the UK, and Singapore. Our innovative strategy combines live online lectures with a limited replay of recorded lectures.
